Knot Work: New Work from Kristen Tordella-Williams
ONE Arts Center, Burlington, Vermont, March 2015
Knot Work is a series of sculptures and wall pieces that employ the use of weaving yarn, embroidery, and knotting through handmade paper, wood, and mixed media. The artist shows us her manipulations of thread, bound images, varied patterns, and processes that reflect the meditation involved in repetitive action.
Kristen Tordella-Williams works across media exploring imagery and sculpture generated from the performative process. She uses performance and sculpture to investigate issues of labor, identity, gender, and memory using an array of material commonly found at hardware stores, supermarkets and recycling bins.
In addition to the two and three-dimensional work shown at ONE Arts, there will be performance ephemera created by Lifetime Guarantee, a collaboration between Jenny Hillenbrand and Kristen Tordella-Williams. Lifetime Guarantee focuses on the relationship between the body and household tools and products.
Join ONE Arts Center in welcoming Mississippi based artist Kristen Tordella-Williams as she presents Knot Work.
Opening reception Saturday, March 14th, 6-8PM
